M.C. Herd WINNER – National Large Employer of the Year 2022!

Geelong Lamb and Beef processor M.C. Herd has been crowned Large Employer of the Year in 2022 at the National Training Awards.

  The Australian Training Awards are the peak national awards that showcase best practice in vocational education and training (VET). The Australian Training Awards recognise and celebrate excellence and are an important mechanism for promoting the benefits of vocational education and training.

“We have opened up career pathways so staff can develop, stay and grow with the Company.” 

Mr Lauricella said.

The Large Employer of the Year Award recognises large businesses and enterprises with 100 or more full-time equivalent employees that have achieved excellence in the provision of nationally recognised training to their employees.  The Awards night was held on Friday 18 November 2022 at the Adelaide Convention Centre. “This is an incredible achievement for M.C. Herd, who started from humble beginnings over 70 years ago and who now employ over 300 staff.”  – Mr Lauricella said.

Mr Lauricella thanked Frank Herd and the Herd family for their belief and resilience by fostering a culture that supports their employees to prosper and grow within the industry. 

M.C. Herd is a third-generation Australian family business established in 1951, initially as a small abattoir providing services to the Geelong and district areas. It has evolved into a large export meat processor employing more than 300 local staff to process beef and lamb for world markets.

Mr Lauricella acknowledged other well deserving finalists, Komatsu and Byrnecut taking out the silver and bronze awards respectively.  “What a privilege to be amongst some of the finest large employers and employees of Australia and beyond.” – Mr Lauricella said. 

Mr Lauricella also thanked Michael Grogan at FGM Consultants for their nomination and support and the M.C. Herd Human Resources and Training team for their outstanding effort.

“We are very excited to have been awarded as Gold Winner as Large Employer of the Year for the National Awards.  This award is an amazing accomplishment to the staff at M.C. Herd. We are incredibly proud of you all and this award recognises the efforts of so many hard-working employees from various cultures by growing and developing their skills within the meat industry.” – Mr Lauricella said.
